Dr. Charles J Gillan, BSc(Hons), BA, PGCHET, FHEA, is a senior lecturer based at ECIT within the School of EEECS at QUB. He obtained his PhD under Prof P G Burke using high performance numerical computing to solve partial differential equations modelling the study of electron molecule scattering. He then worked for 2 years at the New York offices of ADP Inc. developing low latency multithreaded software. He worked for Nortel Networks (UK) Ltd and was manager of a UK based development group. He was co-ordinator of the FP7 HANDHOLD then co-investigator and project manager for the NanoStreams project in which he performed research on energy efficient software to compute prices for financial options at ultra-low latency. He was a Work Package leader for the H2020 AllScale project researching new task based models for the forthcoming exascale environment and presently co-investigator on the H2020 UniServer projects investigating future energy efficient server and micro-server architectures.
